Stacy Lewis and Chesnee hitting the links in Orlando

Stacy Lewis and Chesnee are going golfing together this week in Orlando!

Stacy Lewis hasn’t played much golf lately. She’s been busy doing other things, the stuff that comes with a new baby in the house.

Chesnee is one of five new babies born to pro golf moms last year, so it won’t be long before she and her golfsibs start forging their own kind of spacial baby friendships.

But for the moment, both mother and daughter are facing another ‘new normal’ – some time away from each other. It’s not always comfortable, but it’s part of the process. We know the drill. We’ve been there. But Lewis started swinging her sticks three weeks ago and Golfweek’s Beth Ann Nichols reports that Lewis and Chesnee are going to go golfing together this week!

Lewis stepped away from competition last July, where she finished T38 at the Marathon Classic. It’s a long, long way from July to February for a professional athlete, and there’s no doubt that Lewis has a very rusty game.

But the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions is opening the LPGA’s 2019 season and Lewis will be on the tee. She told Golfweek,

I don’t know if I’ll ever say I’m ready. I need to go play and get my legs under me and just do it.

It’s an invitation-only, no sponsor exemptions event, with 26 LPGA 2017 and 2018 champions playing alongside 50 celebrities at Tranquilo Golf Course. In many respect the ideal venue for Lewis to return to competition. There’s a purse to be divided and there are CME Globe points to be accumulated. But the atmosphere at Tranquilo will be relaxed, leaning more toward fun than work.

It won’t really matter if Lewis shanks a few balls and skulls a chip or two. It’s much more important that she get back on the golf course and that she and Chesnee both learn how to manage this working mom arrangement.

Lewis told GolfWeek that she’ll take a pass this year on the early swing through Australia and Asia and rejoin the Tour for the Founders Cup in March. Gerrod is going along to Orlando, so this week will be a family golf outing. Then, as Lewis gets down to the serious business of prepping for the U.S. Women’s Open, her parents plan to travel with her and Chesnee.

Golf, as we all know, is a game families play and enjoy together!
