Wilshire Country Club will host LPGA’s HUGEL-JTBC Open
Wilshire Country Club is a grand and worth links course that’s going to put the LPGA in the center of Hollywood glitz and glitter!
Wilshire Country Club will host the Tour’s HUGEL-JTBC Open April 19-22. It’s official! The Tour is going to Hollywood!
Set in Hancock Park, in the heart of Hollywood, Wilshire Country Club has hosted a number of LPGA, PGA TOUR, and PGA Tour Champions events. The links course, which opened in 1919, knows how to put on a good show Hollywood-style!
The course layout is intriguing. Beverly Boulevard bisects the front and back nines. The two nines are connected by a tunnel that runs beneath one of the city’s most fabled avenues.
A natural stream of water, actually an arroyo, or barranca, runs through the entire golf course. You can get a sense of how the barranca figures into course management and shot-making decisions from this flyover video.
The HUGEL-JTBC Open marks the Tour’s return to a venue where Annika Sörenstam claimed the victory in 2001 at the Office Depot Championship.
LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan is especially pleased to mount this new event on the Tour’s schedule in Southern California.
More from ForeGals
We’re very excited to take the LPGA back to Los Angeles and historic Wilshire Country Club, adding to the Tour’s already prominent presence in Southern California. We want to thank our good friends at HUGEL, JTBC and Eiger Marketing Group for providing us the opportunity to bring the stars of golf’s global tour to the heart of Hollywood and put on a show in one of the largest broadcast markets in the world.
Pat and Mike was filmed at the Riveria, but Kate Hepburn and Howard Hughes conducted a brief clandestine courtship on the Wilshire links. One can only imagine what other forgotten tidbits of Wilshire Country Club/Hollywood golf gossip will emerge over the coming months!
What would you give to play the pro-am at the HUGEL-JTBC Open? And who will drop in for a visit to the Golf Channel broadcast booth? Such questions as these are engaging me right now.
